The Counseling Program
The Guidance and Counseling program is an integral part of the total educational program at Lowrey Middle School. It is designed to address the developmental needs of all students by helping them to develop skills in the areas of academic, personal and social growth.
The program is based on the belief that each child is unique and that each child is capable of learning and achieving. The program provides services that will prepare students to enhance their learning process, deal effectively with situations that interefere with learning, become goal-directed and self directed in preparing for their life and career roles, and develop positive personal, interpersonal and social skills.
Lowrey's program follows the four components of the michigan model:
1. Responsive Services which include
a. Personal counseling rendered on an individual or small group basis for students facing difficulties of all kinds
b. Crisis counseling provided to students facing emergency situations
c. Consultation with administrators, teachers, parents and outside agencies to provide the best services to students
d. Referral to tohers who are better equipped to handle certain situation or cases.
2. System Support which includes:
a. Consultaion with teachers
b. Professional development
c. Staff/community relations
d. Community outreach
3. Individual Planning which includes activities that help all students plan, monitor and manange their learning as well as their personal and career development These include
a. Individual appraisal
b. Individual advisement
c. Placement
4. Guidance curriculum is organized around three major areas:
a. Career planning and organization
b. Knowledge of self and others
c. Educational and career development
