Students are expected to be:
Prompt:
Be in your seat and ready to start class on time.
Procedural:
Follow directions the first time they are given.
Prepared/Productive:
Bring student planner, textbook, paper, pencils/pens, and folder to class each day.
Polite:
Raise your hand and wait to be called on before speaking.
Positive:
Respect yourself, your school, your fellow students and everyone’s property.

Lowrey Middle School Dress Code
- The Lowrey Middle School dress code is based on what is considered to be “safe and appropriate” for school.
- We expect our students to dress in a modest way that avoids distraction and supports an atmosphere for learning.
Footwear
- All footwear must be securely attached to the foot both in front and in back.
Shorts
- Shorts will need to cover the entire thigh and come very close to the top of the knee.
- They will be loose fitting (no spandex / lycra / cut offs). The material will be solid (no mesh).
Tops
- Sleeveless tops are acceptable under the following conditions…
- The shoulder will be covered completely.
- Necklines will be modest.
- The tops will not be tight fitting.
- The torso will be covered at all times.
- Cut off shirts will not be allowed.
- T-shirts will not advertise alcohol/ tobacco or be in any way controversial/distracting.
Hair
- Anything worn in the hair must be coordinated with the outfit (no bandanas).
Hallway/Change of Classes Procedures
- Walk steadily on the right side of the hall.
- Keep moving to your next class.
- Keep hands and feet to yourself, talk softly, no horseplay.
Special Programs/Assemblies/Pep Rallies
- Observe proper hallway procedures.
- Students must sit in the area designated WITH THEIR TEACHER.
- Students are expected to respect all performers.
- Students are to remain in their seats and wait to be dismissed by the teachers.
- Students should respond quickly to the “Lowrey Silence Signal” (right hand raised).
Dances, Sporting Events, Any Extracurricular Activity
- All students must enter from the designated entrance/doorway.
- If a student serves ISS/OSS, they are excluded from extracurricular activities for that day(s).
- Any student violating the Code of Conduct during the event will be required to leave.
- Students must have ALL items from their locker before entering the event.
- NO STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED TO GO BACK TO A LOCKER DURING OR AFTER AN EVENT.
Posters
- All posters must be neat, timely, and grammatically correct.
- All posters must be removed within one week of posting.
- Posters may be hung up with masking tape (hidden) or handy tack.
Parties
- The classroom is a place for learning.
- No parties are allowed during class time.
- Students may not plan parties to be held during class time.
Fire Drill Procedure
- Each teacher will have a map, which shows his/her fire drill location
- Students will proceed quickly to the nearest exit under the guidance of their current teacher.
- Students will move quickly but will not run or shout.
- From there, students will proceed to the designated area where their current class will meet.
- Teachers will always take attendance after they cross the street with their class.
Disaster Drill
- Students are expected to leave all belongings in the room and proceed QUIETLY and calmly to the designated area.
- Sit on the floor, away from windows and glass.
- Place your hands over your head, head drawn to the knees and pull your knees to your chest. SIT QUIETLY!
- After the bell rings, proceed quietly back to class.
Cafeteria Procedures
- Observe proper hallway procedures to and from the cafeteria, including using ONLY the assigned stairways.
- Students, with the parent permission on file in the office, may go home during lunch. They must sign in/out in the student office.
- You are expected to report to lunch by 10:37 (6 th Gr); 11:36 (7 th Gr); or 12:35 (8 th Gr)
- Line up in a single file for your food.
- Treat all staff with respect. The cafeteria staff is supplying you with a service. “Please” and “Thank you” go a long way.
- You may only use your own lunch card.
- You may not purchase items from the snack line for the elementary students.
- You are expected to stay in your seat at your assigned table.
- You must ask permission to go to the bathroom or get a drink of water.
- Clean up your table and the area around it.
- Food and drink are not to be taken out of the cafeteria.
Schoolwork
- All work is to be turned in on time, on the assigned worksheet - on loose leaf or in a notebook (as discussed in class).
- No papers with frayed edges will be accepted.
- All work must have first name, last name, date, and hour in the UPPER, RIGHT-HAND CORNER.
- Student work must be kept in a folder according to teacher requirements.
- Recommend a color-coded folder for each subject and table of contents.
- Students are expected to strive for quality work.
- Students are expected to complete their work on their own.
- Students are responsible for getting all work they missed while absent.
Student Planners

Lowrey Middle School is providing each student with a “student planner”.
-
This planner will be used to assist the students in keeping track of homework, class assignments, test dates and projects.

Teachers and parents will want to use this planner to communicate with each other by writing notes and making comments.

Students will be required to have the student planner with them at all times.
-
If a student loses his/her planner, he/she must replace it.
- The replacement cost is $5.00.
Teachers will:
- Post assignments on the board.
- Give students time to record assignments in their student planner.
- Document any passes to and from class.
- Write notes to the parents in the planner, on the current date, when necessary.
Students will:
- Copy any and all assignments, test dates and projects in their student planners.
- Carry their student planner with them at all times during the school day.
Parents are expected to:
- Check their child’s student planner daily.
- Help their child find a quiet place to study.
- Communicate with teachers and/or administration when they have a concern.
Honor Roll
A Lowrey Middle School student will receive honor roll recognition under the following conditions:
- The student has earned a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0
- There are no grades below a “C-“
- The absence of the “disruptive behavior” code on the report card
Students, who meet the above criteria and have earned at least a 3.6 GPA will be recognized for “VIP Honor Roll”. The recognition for honor roll includes a letter home, bumper sticker and a pencil delivered by Dr. Makki and Dr. Dakroub. Eighth grade students who are VIP honor students are invited to an ice cream sundae celebration. At the end of the year, there is a special pizza celebration for all VIP students which is sponsored by the Lebanese American Club.

- Students must carry a 2.0 or higher GPA to be academically eligible to participate in athletics in Dearborn.
- At Lowrey, we stress to our students that they should be hard-working students as well as hard-working athletes.
- Students must be present in school for at least one-half day in order to participate in athletic events.
- Please contact our athletic director, Mr. Saad (827-7919) to have any of your questions or concerns addressed.
Attendance
- If your child will be absent from or late to school, for any reason, a parent must call our attendance secretary (827-1813) by 8:30 am on the day of the absence.
- If you would like to take your child early from school or have them start later in the day, please call the attendance secretary as soon as possible.
- Letters or notes are not acceptable excuses for middle school absences.
Physicals / Immunizations
All incoming 6th grade students and all students new to Lowrey in the 7th and 8th grade must turn in a physical. If you do not have the form, you may pick one up in the student office. Students who are participating in competitive sports must also have a physical completed for the year. Your child’s coach will give you the necessary information.
Information about immunization can be picked up in the student office. This will include what immunizations are required and the clinics that you can go to.
Free/Reduced Lunch Applications
Your child will bring home an application for the free/reduced lunch program. This application must be filled out (one per family) every year. The due date is Friday, September 16 (if you have qualified in previous years). Please have your child turn it in to the student office as soon as possible.
