During the month of November 2017, Lowrey students and staff gathered canned goods to give to the less fortunate. This act of kindness was called Battle Against Hunger. The goal of this campaign was to teach students to share and think about people who are not as fortunate. Students were asked to imagine having to go to sleep on an empty stomach. Millions of people across the world have to deal with this situation. Hunger is a problem that one alone cannot solve, so we needed a large amount of people to donate. According to the Dearborn Public Schools YouTube channel, “Fordson High School and all of its feeder schools donated a total of 19,271 food items. Dearborn High school and all of its feeder schools donated a total of 26,338 food items. Edsel Ford High school and all of its feeder schools donated a total of 28,691 food items. Lowrey is so proud to have helped in gathering a staggering total of 74,300 non-perishable items district wide. Lowrey has helped our community to fight against and help those struggling. Though this act of kindness may not be enough alone to solve the hunger problem in the Dearborn area, it sure did have a positive effect on our students and staff, and on all the unfortunate people around our community.
