Dear Families,
As we begin this new school year, we wanted to take a few minutes to share a collective commitment. As you are aware, we have seen an increase in vaping among teenagers. This has become more than a building and/or district concern.
Our primary goal at Lowrey School is student safety, and this issue deals with our student’s health and well-being. We want to ensure that not only are students staying away from vaping altogether, but also we want to educate them on the reasons why vaping is so harmful and detrimental to their current health; as well as the dangers and permanent long term health risks of vaping. We would prefer to be more proactive on the educational front, as discipline consequences are only a small component and are not meant to be a scare tactic. In order for us to be successful in this endeavor, we need your help and full support. We will be hosting a guest speaker from the American Heart Association, who will be presenting to our middle school students about the ramifications and health concerns that come along with vaping and tobacco usage.
With the new “Law” that was currently passed in Michigan, banning flavored vapes off the market, please be cautious and mindful that children will attempt to stock up on it, knowing that it will no longer be available.
Please speak to your children about the dangers of vaping. We encourage you to do your own research. We are hopeful that together we can have a positive impact on helping our/your children make good decisions about life choices. As always, we are thankful and appreciative of our community support.
